More than 850 cars are expected to participate in the Hot August Nights Poker Run on Thursday August 5th. The classic cars will make their way to Carson Valley representing some of the 5,500 entrants in this year’s nationally recognized 24th Annual Hot August Nights, one of Northern Nevada’s premier annual events.

The cars will participate in a 110-mile seven stop poker run which begins at Baldini’s in Reno, continues through Carson City to Minden Park and then parades over Kingsbury Grade to South Lake Tahoe, finishing up at Legends at Sparks Marina.   For the seventh year, the Minden Park stop will be the official lunch stop featuring an up close and personal way to view these beautiful vehicles and have an opportunity to speak with the owners!

This year the game will be a hand of 7-card stud.  Participants receive randomly drawn poker cards at each stop.  The person with the best hand wins $3,000 for first place, $1,750 for second place and $1,000 for third place

The Valley Cruisers Car Club will assist with parking and Poker Card distribution, the Lions Club will be barbequing hamburgers, Lira’s Market will feature barbequed tri-tip and Francisco’s Mexican Restaurant will offer a lunch special and their full menu. Barone and Reed will have poker run lunch specials in addition to their regular menu.  Bill McClain’s Mobile Music will provide music throughout the day.

The event, a once a year chance to see hundreds of classic cars all without the crowds, takes place from approximately 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Minden Park on Thursday, August 5.  Streets will be closed to thru traffic from Esmeralda and 4th Streets around the Minden Park area.
